Kidney DiseaseWe are constantly reviewing the treatment we give to pets to ensure we are providing the most up to date and effective treatments available for our patients. Recently we have adopted a more rigorous approach to managing kidney disease in dogs and cats, where we aim to check the kidney parameters by blood tests; checking the urine concentration, along with evidence for infection (which can either be a cause of kidney problems or arise as a result of chronic kidney disease), and for protein in the urine (which can be an early sign of kidney disease). We also aim to check the blood pressure of affected animals and their eyes for evidence of high blood pressure (which can arise as a result of kidney disease or cause kidney disease). We have various treatments for kidney problems which are specifically tailored to the patient's condition, the owners budget and desires but our overall aim is to slow down kidney disease and keep your pet comfortable. Please make an appointment to see the vet if you are concerned about your pet's kidneys and wish to discuss this in more detail.
